Current Project

I am going to Upward Bound in the summer at the University of Washington. I think most of my six classes are fun. I am also in a drill team, but I rarely go to practice because I am busy. The drill team is called, The Seattle Chinese Community Girls Drill Team.

In first period, I have lecture class, in which a teacher talks and we listen and take notes. Second period, I have technology class, when we learn how to use computers, and my favorite part of class is E-mailing my friends. Third I have Discussion/Lab class, which follows up on the lecture class. Fourth, I have Scholar's Bowl, where we practice drilling on questions about math, English grammar, literature, science, social studies, theater, sports, geography, world religions, and current events. Fifth, I have math class, here we learn math and do work sheets. Sixth, I have language, class. In language class we are preparing to write a narrative essay.

Biography - who am I?

My name is Helen Fung. I live with my siblings and parents in Seattle. I have three sisters and one brother. I am the oldest child. My dad named me after Mt. St. Helens, the volcano that erupted in 1980. I was born in February 9, 1981. During regular school season I go to Cleveland High School. I also go to a Chinese School on Saturdays called Sun Yat-sen.

I am not sure what I want to be when I grow up, but I am interested in business. When I am finished with high school, I plan to go to college.

My parents are from Canton, China, but I was born in Seattle. I am Chinese. My Grandma still celebrates a lot of the Chinese holidays. I chose this picture and this text because I am interested in Chinese history and culture. Here is some text about China's History:

According to Chinese tradition, the Chinese people originated in the Huang He (Yellow River) valley. The legends tell of a creator, P'an Ku, who was succeeded by a series of heavenly, terrestrial, and human sovereigns. Archaeological evidence is scant, although remains of Homo erectus, found near Beijing, have been dated back 460,000 years. Rice was grown in eastern China circa 5500 BC, and about five centuries later an agricultural society developed in the Huang He valley. There is strong evidence of two so-called pottery cultures, the Yang-shao culture (3950?-1700? BC), and the Lung-shan culture (2000?-1850? BC). [1]
