Current Project:

“Attending Upward Bound”

I am attending a summer program called “Upward Bound.” I think the program is great because I can earn high school credits, see my friends, meet new people, and get to know the UW campus. My favorite classes in Upward Bound are Technology class, Art class, and Math class. I think the math class I have in Upward Bound is better than the math class I have in school because here the instructor takes more time to explain the different material to the students. The Art and Technology classes are fun because I get to explore the internet and learn how to make different kinds of artwork. I look forward to coming to Upward Bound again.

My Favorite WWW site so far:

My favorite website site has to do with the country of Cambodia. The site tells differents kinds of facts about Cambodia, like facts about the land and the people. It also shows pictures of the people and the flag. The address is: http://www.mekong-net.com/cambodia/index.html

My Biography

Hi! My name is Mony S. I go to Cleveland High School, next year I am going to be a sophomore. I am Cambodian. My family practices Buddhism, a religion mostly practiced in southeast Asia. I like American food and Asian food. One of my favorite food is rice. I was born in Thailand and raised here in Seattle. I like all kinds of flowers especially roses. My best friend is Sony Thach. I have been friends with her for four years. I have known Sony since the beginning of middle school and we are still getting to know each other. I have so many other friends that it would take forever to name them.\About the Country of Cambodia

Cambodia - Overcoming the obstacles

Southeast Asia has not been without its problems, especially over the last four decades or so. The Kingdom of

Cambodia is no exception, although they are now joining their neighbors in solving their internal struggles.

From 1953 to 1970 the country was known as the Kingdom of Cambodia, with King Norodom Suramarit as the

head of state, to be followed on his death by Prince Norodom Sihanouk, his son. Due to various political parties and factions fighting for control of the country, over the next two decades the country underwent several name changes -

Peoples Republic of Kampuchea, etc. Its old name (The Kingdom of Cambodia) was once again adopted in 1993

when Prince Sihanouk, having returned to Cambodia, was crowned as King in Phnom Penh. At the present time the

Khmer Rouge are still involved in an armed struggle to gain a role in the government of Cambodia. Their numbers are

now greatly depleted, however, and resistance seems to be coming to an end. Many of their forces have left to join the national Army of Cambodia, after being offered a post of equal rank to serve in it.

It appears that the Kingdom of Cambodia is getting ready to start out on another Golden Age.

My parents were both born in the country of Cambodia. I have never been there and I know so little about the country or its history. So I decided to have something about the country of Cambodia in my biography.

The country of Cambodia has a flag which resembles Angkor Watt. Angkor Watt is a treasure of Cambodia and has been there for hundreds or may be even thousands of years. This beautiful building was messed up during the war in Cambodia, which had to do with the Khmer Rouge or Pol Pot.

Buddha's Teachings

The Buddha was an oral teacher; he left no written body of thought. His beliefs were codified by later followers.

The Four Noble Truths

At the core of the Buddha's enlightenment was the realization of the Four Noble Truths: (1) Life is suffering. This is more than a mere recognition of the presence of suffering in existence. It is a statement that, in its very nature, human existence is essentially painful from the moment of birth to the moment of death. Even death brings no relief, for the Buddha accepted the Hindu idea of life as cyclical, with death leading to further rebirth. (2) All suffering is caused by ignorance of the nature of reality and the craving, attachment, and grasping that result from such ignorance. (3) Suffering can be ended by overcoming ignorance and attachment. (4) The path to the suppression of suffering is the Noble Eightfold Path, which consists of right views, right intention, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right-mindedness, and right contemplation. These eight are usually divided into three categories that form the cornerstone of Buddhist faith: morality, wisdom, and samadhi, or concentration. [1]

My family practices Buddhism and so I have included this article about the teachings of Buddha.

I like roses. I think they are beautiful.

These are rice stalks.Rice is one of my favorite food. It is the main thing we eat in my family. My Interests and Hobbies

I like to listen to music and to do artwork. I don't think I have any hobbies. I listen to all kinds of music even to the ones I don't understand. I like to draw, paint, cut and paste, and color. I like to draw things from my imagination,,not necessarily realistic. I love to color. Just give me a box of color pens, pencils, and crayons and I could color for hours.
