PEDS 660 – Pediatric Clerkship Cheyenne, WY

Cheyenne is located near the geographical and time center of North America. Strategically situated at a major transportation hub (the intersection of Interstates 25 and 80 and two major railroads), it is a developing center of commerce. Only 90 minutes north of Denver, Colorado, Cheyenne sits as the northern anchor city of the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains.

The City of Cheyenne is the capital of the state of Wyoming. Not only is Cheyenne the capital of Wyoming, it is the Rodeo and Railroad Capital. Cheyenne has many western attractions and events and a rich railroad, military, and ranching history. It covers a land area of 21.1 square miles and is at an elevation of 6000 feet. The population is around 56,000. Cheyenne is close to the Colorado and Nebraska borders. The north-south Interstate 25 intersects with the east-west Interstate 80. FE Warren Air Force Base, home to the Minute Man Missile, is also located here.

Special Opportunities
As the only pediatric clinic in the area, more in-depth exposure to pediatric issues is available. Each physician has his/her own style and special interest including care of the newborn, adolescent medicine, child behavior and development, school problems, care of the hospitalized patient, and handicapping and chronic conditions in childhood. Pediatric Cardiac and Rehabilitation specialists conduct clinics at Cheyenne Children’s Clinic four times a year each.
Housing
One bedroom/1 bath apartment with coin laundry facilities on site across the street from the hospital is located in the same house as the OB/GYN student. Housing is provided free of charge for the student only, and is gender assigned. No overnight guests are allowed. We do not provide housing for pets, family, friends, significant other, etc. If the student wishes to bring along additional people, they will need to make their own arrangements. Jamie Bockelman can recommend a few places which are more affordable (if they have occupancy), and a few of our docs have above garage apartments they rent to students. I’d be happy to pass along the info, but ultimately the student will be responsible for arranging their own housing in that situation.
