Experience

Students will receive a pre-arrival email detailing start time and location. Orientation will take place with Dr.  Marron, and include an office tour and introductions. Students will begin seeing patients on the 2nd or 3rd day following start.

Students will start most days seeing hospitalized pediatric patients. When hospital rounds and reaching are done, the student is expected in the outpatient clinic where they will participate in well-child visits including complete examinations, anticipatory guidance, growth and development assessments, behavior and learning problems and immunizations. These examinations are done on infants, toddlers, school-aged children, and adolescents. In the outpatient clinic, students will also take care of acutely ill children and children with chronic diseases. Students will have the opportunity to participate in specialty clinics at Kalispell Regional Healthcare Clinic – Great Falls.

During this rotation, each student is required to take call one weekend. Weekend call is from Saturday beginning at 8:00AM until Sunday at 5:00PM.

Clothes should be professional, with white coats optional. Name tags are always required, and students must bring their medical student’s name tag. Every student will need to bring their own oto-opthalmoscope and stethoscope.

Transportation

A car or bike is recommended for travel in town. If bringing a car in winter, it is essential that anti-freeze level be safe to -30 F and snow tires are recommended. There is a bus system that operates Monday – Friday from 6:30AM – 6:30PM and on Saturday from 9:30AM – 5:30PM. There are a few Uber drivers in town, and one tax service, Blacked Out Taxi Service.
