PEDS 667 – Pediatric Clerkship Tacoma, WA (Madigan Army Medical Center)

About: Pediatrics – Madigan Army Medical Center

Structure: 6 weeks inpatient and outpatient clinics mix
Instructors: Pediatric Residents, fellows and subspecialists
Students per rotation: 2 student (Spring, Autumn, Winter only)

Madigan Army Medical Center (MAMC)

Due to security regulations at MAMC, every civilian is mandated to complete an expedited federal background in order to gain access to the hospital. GME’s student coordinator will send an email with required documents and steps for completing the background check at least 120 days prior to a rotationForms must be typed, no hand written forms will be accepted.

It is important that you comply with the instructions as soon as possible to ensure your credentialing is complete prior to your rotation.   Items required to be returned to MAMC either by fax, scanned email, or by mail will be:

Directions

Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM):  I-5 to JBLM Main Gate (Exit 120).

You can get a pass for your car at the Main gate only. If your vehicle has a military sticker or after you have obtained a temporary car pass at the Main Gate, you may enter post at Madigan/ Berkley St (Exit 122.)  Map of base available at Main Gate.

What you need to get a visitor’s pass:

  • WA State Enhanced Driver’s License/ID (or see the list at the bottom of the page for a list of authorized IDs)
  • Current car registration/rental car agreement
  • Proof of current car insurance

Housing

IHG Army Hotels (Rainier Inn): Once thru Main Gate, turn right at second light (PX and commissary should be on your left). Go straight at the first stop sign through neighborhood housing. At the end of the neighborhood, IHG Army Hotels is located to your left.  Check in at the end of the covered walkway. Building # 2111, 2107 Utah Avenue. Your hotel reservation has been made at the beginning of the academic year. (If you are not going to use the hotel, please let us know.) Your reservation begins on Sunday, the day prior to your clerkship start and ends the Saturday after your rotation ends.

Contact medical.student@seattlechildrens.org to request your IHG reservation number or to let us know you will not need the reservation.

Hospital Parking:

It is best to park in one of parking lots on the west side of the hospital or along Gardner Loop. You will be ticketed if you park in patient parking and in some areas along the road.  The MAMC student coordinator will provide you with additional parking instructions prior to your rotation.

First Day of Rotation Instructions

The MAMC student coordinator will send you instructions on what time to arrive at Madigan on your first day to complete in-processing requirements.  The GME office is located on the 2nd floor of the Medical Mall inside the Medical Library.

Acceptable forms of picture ID to obtain a visitor’s pass:

  • Washington State Enhanced Driver’s Licenses and IDs
  • DoD Uniformed Services Identification and Privileges Cards
  • U.S. Passport or U.S. Passport Card
  • VA Issued Health Card
  • Permanent resident card or Alien Registration Receipt Card (INS Form I-551).
  • Employee Identification Card issued by a federal, state or local government agency provided it contains a photograph and biometric information such as: Name, DOB, Gender, Height, Eye Color and/or Address.
  • U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Card
  • Transportation Worker ID Card (TWIC) issued by DHS
  • Native American tribal document
  • U.S. Government issued, authenticated Federal PIV credentials
  • US Military or Draft Record containing name and DOB
  • Washington State Enhanced Driver’s License or ID Card
  • Washington State Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
