2014 Graduate Student Symposium
The Seventh Annual Chemical Engineering Graduate Symposium
Thursday, September 18, 2014
Location: Mary Gates Hall
More about the Event
The symposium provides a fantastic opportunity for students from the department to present their research to representatives from industry. For the representatives from industry, this event provides a chance to meet future research leaders and to learn about the exiting work being done in Chemical Engineering at the University of Washington. Students will give short research talks and present posters on topics ranging from alternative energy to biotechology to molecular engineering. This year’s events will be kicked off with a short welcome remarks from ACES, followed by the keynote speech from Lisa Klumb, followed by research talks from graduate students, and finished with an extended poster session/mixer.
Lisa Klumb’s Bio
Lisa earned a Ph.D. from the University of Washington in Chemical Engineering in 1992, working in the lab of Tom Horbett on a glucose sensitive polymeric system for insulin delivery. In 1993, Lisa joined Pat Stayton’s protein engineering lab in the Center for Bioengineering at the University of Washington as a postdoctoral research scientist focused primarily on understanding the protein structure-function relationship in the binding of the biotin ligand to the protein streptavidin. Prior to UW, Lisa received her B.S. in 1987, also in Chemical Engineering, from the University of California, San Diego.
Lisa joined Amgen in 1997 as a research scientist in the Pharmaceutics Department, working on sustained release formulations for protein therapeutics. In 2000, Lisa left the laboratory taking on roles of increasing responsibilities on cross-functional product development teams for pipeline and commercial products at Amgen. Lisa has spent the last 10 years at Amgen in Operations, leading pipeline and commercial product teams responsible for process and product development; manufacturing, product quality and supply chain logistics; global regulatory submissions. Today, Lisa is an Executive Director supervising Operations’ leaders of product teams in the cardiovascular therapeutic area.
