Call for Art – Juried Show for Applied Mathematics

Call for Art – Department of Applied Mathematics – Due October 20th, 11:59 PM

The Department of Applied Mathematics is seeking works of art for a juried, 1-year, temporary exhibition in Lewis Hall. Each artist may submit up to 5 images of ready-to-hang work, not to exceed 36 by 36 inches in total size. We are also accepting small 3D-based works, not to exceed 24 by 24 by 24 inches.

The Department of Applied Mathematics offers PhD and MS degrees in Applied Mathematics and Computational Finance and Risk Management. Our alumni have found work at Amazon, Boeing, Intel, and Microsoft, to name a few places. A place of rigorous research, faculty interests range from neuroscience and biochemistry to mathematical methods of optimization and inverse problems.


Lewis Hall, originally built in 1899 as a dormitory, is a public-access building that houses the Department of Applied Mathematics near the Liberal Arts Quadrangle. The building is open to the public from 7:30 to 5:30 Monday through Friday and is occupied by AMATH Faculty and Graduate Students. We encourage any interested artists to stop by the building.


This call is open to all students of the University of Washington School of Art. All two-dimensional work is encouraged, including painting, collage, drawing, printmaking, and photography. 2D work is not to exceed a size of 36 by 36 inches. 3D work is not to exceed 24 by 24 by 24 inches.


Files should be 1000 pixels in the longest dimension and saved in JPEG format on the highest quality setting. Label each file as LastName_FirstName_ followed by the title, i.e. Picasso_Pablo_Guernica.jpg. Send an accompanying Word document or PDF with the following information for each image file: title, medium, and year. Optionally: price to put on label, and contact information (phone number or email). We cannot facilitate any sales but will refer any inquiries to the artist directly.
