Dear UW students and faculty,
We hope you had a great break!
During the last few weeks of Autumn quarter we released our first issue of The Garden of Ideas both online and in paper. We have been so pleased with how well our journal was received by both faculty and students and hope to make even greater strides in the future. We once again want to give great thanks to writers, various staff, and our team of editors, designers, and public relations officers, without whom the journal would not be possible. Physical copies can be found around the U-District in places like Savery Hall, Microsoft Cafe, the HUB, Hugo House on the ave, and Cafe Allegro. You can also find us online at gardenofideasuw.com.
As we continue distributing copies to the community, we have begun working on the winter edition. In light of this, we are starting the process of collecting submissions during the upcoming weeks.
Submissions are due by 11:59pm on January 30th and can be submitted via email to gardenofideasuw@gmail.com. Be sure to include your name and contact information, as well as anything else you’d like us to know about your work. Writing samples should be between 2,000-5,000 words, and academic writing should include a works cited page. There are no specific guidelines for art submissions. Below is a timeline that highlights important dates:
January 10th: Begin accepting submissions
January 30th: Deadline for submissions
February 28th: Winter issue released in paper and online
As a reminder, our mission is to help students and staff interact with philosophy through unique mediums. Submission formats might include:
–Academic essays, including class papers
–Creative writing (e.g., short stories and poetry)
–Visual art (eg., drawings and photography)
We look forward to viewing your submissions and working with you to publish them in The Garden of Ideas.
