About Spindrift
Spindrift is the annual art and literary journal of Shoreline Community College. The journal is edited, designed, produced, and marketed by student staff, with help from select faculty advisors.

Work accepted for consideration includes original photography, digital art, fine art, poetry, prose, music, film, animation, multimedia, and more.

Spindrift has a history of winning journal competitions. The 2021 issue won a number of awards, including two for Best Magazine. The journal placed first in the Pacific-Western region in the national CCHA Literary Magazine Competition and first overall in the regional WCCHA Literary Magazine Competition.

Submission Guidelines

  • Anyone may submit work for consideration.
  • Submissions must be received by March 21, 2022.
  • Maximum 5 literary pieces, 5 art pieces, and/or 5 music or film pieces per contributor.
  • Send all submissions and questions to spindrift@shoreline.edu.
  • Include the following information in your email:
    • A list of all materials sent with title, literary genre, and artwork medium.
    • Author/artist name as it should appear in print.
    • A short bio about the author or artist, in third person (they/she/he), of approximately forty (40) words.
    • If your work is derivative of another artist’s work, please credit the original work and artist (for example: Title of Your Original Work, after Monet’s Water Lilies).

Art

  • Minimum 300 dpi resolution, actual size or larger.
  • Digital submissions only.
  • RGB color preferred.
  • Original paintings and ceramics must be photographed using studio lighting.
  • NOTE: We may need to crop your submission to fit into layout.

Literary

  • Short Stories, Poems, and Essays: maximum 2,500 words per piece.
  • Short Plays and Screenplays: maximum 15 pages.
  • Each work must be in a separate Word or Google document.
  • Please proofread your work. Spindrift is not responsible for typos or grammar.

Audio/Video

  • Streaming-quality digital audiovisual files.
  • Send large files via Dropbox, Google Drive, or other file-sharing service.
  • Include 300 dpi jpeg film still of video.
