Art Interns
Seattle Met is seeking a smart and creative design intern to help with the production of seattlemet.com and our quarterly print magazine. We are currently hiring for Winter/Spring (January–June) 2023. This paid position requires between 15–20 hours per week in 4- to 5-hour stints. The duration of this internship is generally six months. We are flexible with student schedules during the academic year, and the internship can be used to fulfill school credit. Remote, in-office, and hybrid work are possible.
We are looking for visual storytellers with an understanding of typography, color theory, and a passion for impactful design. Conceptual thinkers who bring humor and an appropriate level of irreverence to their work will do well here.
Depending on skill level, art intern opportunities may include page design and layout, photo research, spot illustration, photography and photo adjustment, participating in team brainstorming meetings, and assisting with some administrative tasks.
When interns have proved successful on smaller art assignments, they will have the opportunity to contribute to, or design projects for publication online and/or in print. We want our interns to walk away with strong clips that they have earned.
Responsibilities
- Design for website and print publication
- Assist art directors with photo research and shoot production
- Uploading art to website and proofing print pages
- Creating original photography and/or illustration (collage or digital illustration skills are a plus)
Qualifications
- Background in graphic design, photography, or illustration
- Working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite and Mac OS X
- Ability to jump between often disparate tasks
- Strong attention to detail
- Deadline oriented
- Independent and self-motivated
Compensation
$17.27 per hour and can be used to fulfill school credit.
