Shop Assistant Position Description
The Shop Assistant is compensated for their time and expertise and asked to support the Teaching Artist in hands-on ways in the classroom. The Shop Assistant is responsible for working with small groups of youth, reviewing demos for students, and ensuring that students are safe with equipment. Experience with shop tools and safety protocols is needed, and experience with / enthusiasm for working with youth is great!
● Support Teaching Artist in daily classes, including active hands-on work with 10-15yo students
● Independently oversee small groups of actively working students
● Help with clean up, set-up and transitions
● Help identify and assist students who may need extra support
● Engage youth with open-ended questions to guide them in critical thinking and finding possible solutions on their own
● Monitor students’ activity and ensure that they are using equipment safely and as instructed
● Proficiency with hand tools and power tools within the metal shop.
● Willingness to work as a member of a team, taking cues from the Teaching Artist
Compensation
$25 per hour (20 hours per class)
Week 1: July 10-14, 9am-1pm, 1:30-5:30pm
Week 3: July 24-28, 1:30-5:30pm
Week 4: July 31- Aug 4, 9am-1pm
Week 5: August 7-11, 9am-1pm
Week 6: August 14-18, 1:30-5:30pm
Week 7: August 21-25, 9am-1pm, 1:30-5:30pm
Week 8: August 28- September 1, 9am-1pm, 1:30-5:30pm
