Organization Overview

The Seattle Architecture Foundation (SAF) connects people to the architecture, design, and history of Seattle. We believe the more you engage with design, the more you feel connected to your city.

SAF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization governed by an engaged Board of Directors and supported by dedicated volunteers and generous donors. SAF operates on an annual budget of about $260k with primary funding received from the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction community. Position Overview

The SAF Program Manager oversees all SAF programs, including architectural walking tours, educational workshops, and public events, such as exhibits. As a leader within the organization, this role works in close collaboration with the Executive Director, Administrative Coordinator, Board Members, and volunteers. The Program Manager often supervises volunteers and may occasionally supervise part-time employees and contractors. This position requires working some evenings and weekends, depending on program and event schedules. It is a hybrid role, with some in-person work happening at the Center for Architecture and Design at 1010 Western Avenue, Seattle.

Key responsibilities include:

Program Planning and Development 40%

  • In collaboration with the Executive Director and Programs Committee, design and execute an annual calendar of programs and events that fulfil SAF’s mission.
  • Assist the Executive Director with fundraising activities, including grant-writing, as needed.
  • Work with the Executive Director and Administrative Coordinator to plan and track the marketing efforts and ticket sales for each program.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with schools, architecture and design firms, and other community partners.
  • Recruit volunteers, employees, and contractors as needed.

Program Execution 40%

  • Coordinate and run educational workshops on architecture and design in various formats and for various age groups including field trips for schools.
  • Work with the Programs Committee and Exhibit Committee to design and run an annual series of public events, including exhibits.
  • In collaboration with the Tour Committee, oversee SAF’s annual schedule of architectural walking tours.
  • Manage the number of volunteers, employees, and contractors needed for smooth program delivery.
  • Oversee the design, printing, and distribution of program materials and supplies.

Program Evaluation 20%

  • In collaboration with the Programs Committee, design and implement a process for evaluating each of SAF’s programs.
  • Give and receive feedback from volunteers, employees, and contractors at regular intervals.
  • Assist with report-writing for grants and other purposes as needed.



  • Proven experience in educational program creation and implementation.
  • An ability to work independently and collaboratively, contributing to a positive, inclusive, and equitable culture.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated project management experience.
  • Prior work managing groups of volunteers.
  • An ability to develop relationships and partnerships with related organizations in the architecture, design, urban planning community.
  • A passion for SAF’s mission.
  • Preferred: Access to a vehicle that can be used to deliver supplies to program locations.



This is an exempt, full-time position that includes health insurance, paid time off, and a transportation subsidy. The annual salary range for this position is $70,000 to $74,000, depending on experience.
