JOB SUMMARY
Pratt instructors are responsible for creating engaging curricula, and facilitating engaging learning experiences for Pratt students in the large metals studios. Responsibilities will include teaching select large metals (forge, fabrication, foundry) classes. Must be able to clearly communicate technical information to students, maintain a safe classroom environment as well as manage and maintain the relevant studio for students during the duration of the classes, as well as manage the cleaning and reset the space at the end of each class.

Instructors are welcome to work to develop their own curricula, or to propose specific class subjects, but existing class structures are well developed and supported as well.

Responsibilities
● Assuring a safe studio environment, modeling and instructing students in safe studio behavior
● Proficiency leading and connecting with students in an intimate class setting of 3 to 8 adults at various skill levels and abilities.
● Assisting students with tools and equipment, answering questions about work processes and design decisions
● Punctuality, respect, and adherence to guidelines for maintaining shared studio and storage spaces.
● Collaborate with other instructors to maintain curriculum consistency across classes
● Timely communication in email correspondence, deadlines, turning in waivers, reimbursements, class evaluations, incident reports, etc.
● Strong organizational skills relevant to class preparation and administrative tasks.
● Cleaning and maintaining the studio and its equipment to a reasonable degree
● Adherence to Pratt policies and Studio procedures. Minimum
Qualifications
● Experience operating relevant studio equipment
● Broad knowledge of large metal-related topics, trends, processes, and skills
● Experience in a sculpture studio setting
● Competence in serving diverse populations
● Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
● Responsible & safety-oriented Preferred Qualities
● Familiarity with Pratt, the Central Area, local arts organizations, or related institutions
Compensation
$ 36/hr, instructors are hired as employees, and Pratt pays the employer’s share of employment taxes. Compensation includes in-kind benefits in the form of accrued sick time, Pratt annual membership at the Collaborator level, studio access, and, for instructors who teach more than 60 hours in a year, credit towards free classes. These benefits are nontransferable.
