Your child has made a decision with your guidance. At this point it is critical that you seal the deal.
- What is he going to do?
- When is he going to do it? Set a date and mark it on the calendar.
- Who is involved?
- Where is this going to happen?
- When are you and he going to evaluate the result? Choose a date shortly after he should have accomplished his plan and mark it on the calendar.
These questions not only cement the plan, they give your child an opportunity to raise his doubts and concerns. He may be afraid to go to the neighbor's home by himself. You could offer to go with him, letting him know that he'll be doing the talking.
How to avoid problems in this step:
- Don't skip this step. You've made it this far, don't let it slip now.
- Set a firm date for acting on his plan, not "next week".
