Major: Forest Resources
Advisor: Ernesto Alvarado
Work Experience: 15 years in the logging industry and 2 years as a Yakama Nation Tribal Forester and Fire Suppression
Title of Research Project: I will be conducting a comparative analysis of fire severity within forest stands on Yakama tribal land, US Forest Service, and State lands. One case study I will be using is the Cold Springs fire located in Washington near Mt. Adams on Yakama Nation Reservation adjacent to Gifford National Forest. Also, I will be researching the importance of Traditional Ecological Knowledge and why Native Americans used fire to enhance vegetation productivity for basketry materials, foods, and medicines. In addition, I will investigate why it is imperative to incorporate Traditional Ecological Knowledge with Western Science for future land and natural resource management.
