Why UW Child and Adolescent Psychiatry?

"I have a public health background and have sought out opportunities to work with the underserved throughout medical school and in residency. I specifically chose UW as a program to apply to because they serve a five state region and closely work with local clinicians to improve access to care; this goes hand-in-hand with my goal to provide care for those least able to receive it. They also offer a range of elective opportunities to work with minority populations and I felt like this resonated with my longer term career goals. Lastly, I am still finding my niche within CAP, and I wanted to find a program that offers a wide breadth of experiences. This program has continued to amaze me with its opportunities, access to mentors and projects, and overall positive and non-hierarchical work environment.”

Follow Me For A Week

Sunday
Morning:   Wake up slow and make my way over to the Ballard Farmer's Market with my partner. Spend the first part of the day eating good food and drinking a matcha latte from Miro tea.
Evening:   Food prep and looking ahead to the rest of the week in my planner. Reading a book and drinking tea as the day comes to a close.
Monday
Morning:   I hop on to my virtual clinic at Odessa Brown and see patients for new evaluations and follow up visits, with clinic supervision at the end of my half day. I transition to DBT seminar that runs over lunch for the first six months of the academic year.
Afternoon:   I see my own patients in Continuity Clinic, mostly for medication management. I then co-lead Multifamily Skills Group for DBT during the evening, virtually.
Tuesday
Morning:   I head over to Echo Glen Children's Center for the entire day, carpooling with my co-fellows, to complete new evaluations, do medication management, and see my weekly therapy case.
Evening:   I go for a run and then have dinner with my partner before answering emails and having an early night.
Wednesday
Morning:   I meet with my DBT supervisor for individual supervision and then join the DBT consult team to discuss cases. I usually have research meetings over lunch or attend Journal Club once a month. I then see my own patients and DBT patients.
Evening:   I have a free evening to meet up with friends, go to a dance class, or catch a sunset at Golden Gardens by bike.
Thursday
Morning:   I meet with the Early Childhood Clinic team virtually to review cases and then see young children with their parents for evaluations and consult visits for parent behavior management training (PBMT) groups, or I work with other clinicians to teach PBMT skills.
Evening:   I co-lead bilingual (Spanish/English groups) for parents and their teens who are facing anxiety or depression through the CALMA Clinic.
Friday
Morning:   I do administrative tasks in the morning before hopping onto a Zoom link for virtual didactics.
Afternoon:   I work on grant-funded research, focusing on quality improvement and the creation and delivery of a parent behavior management training program for foster caregivers. I also correspond and/or meet with my research supervisor as needed.
Saturday
Morning:   I wake up early to go for a long run along the Burke Gilman or at a local park, followed by a snack and a matcha latte. I spend the day exploring Seattle or going on hikes during summer.
Evening:   I meet up with friends at a local brewery before heading to Gas Works Park to see the sunset.

Career Goals

"I am highly interested in working in a team-based setting with underserved populations once I graduate from fellowship. I also very much enjoy organizing, working in interdisciplinary teams, and conducting QI and qualitative research and hope to continue doing so during my career. A greater vision is to ultimately expand access to child psychiatry internationally through cultural and educational exchange with my home country of Poland, among other countries."
