Submission Information

The deadline for ICLS 2002 submissions is May 13th.

The submission deadline for papers, posters, and special sessions has passed.

ICLS 2002 will accept submissions in the following categories:

Submissions will only be accepted on-line!

Instructions for submitting materials in each category are below.

NOTE: We recommend submissions be Adobe Acrobat PDF documents. Microsoft Word (doc), Rich Text (rtf), and postscript (ps) will also be accepted. Your submission will be uploaded to the on-line database as part of the conference submission process. For more information about obtaining PDF creation software for your computer, please see the Acrobat web site. Acrobat is usually available at a substantial educational discount, so check with your local school computer store.

When uploading your file to the conference submission site, please give it a logical name, such as the first author's last name, and be sure that the file name ends in either ".pdf", ".doc", ".rtf", or ".ps".

Papers and Posters

We invite papers on the entire range of topics relevant to the learning sciences (as outlined in the Call for Papers). Reports of research that cuts across traditional disciplinary boundaries are encouraged. To create a high-quality program representing the newest ideas and results in the field, submitted papers will be evaluated through peer review with respect to several criteria, including originality, quality, and significance of research, relevance to a broad audience of learning sciences researchers, and clarity of presentation. Accepted papers will be presented at the conference as talks or posters, as appropriate. Papers may document results from empirical research, present arguments that are theoretical, and/or detail relfections about research methodology. All accepted papers and 2-page abstracts of posters will be published in the conference proceedings.

Submission Details

Submissions should be full papers, not just abstracts or paper proposals. The maximum length of papers is seven (7) pages long (including figures and references), with 1 inch margins on all sides (i.e., the text should be 6.5 inches by 9 inches, including footnotes), single spaced, and in 12-point type. Citations should be APA style. All pages should be numbered. Camera-ready papers will be required only after authors are notified of acceptance. Appropriate formats will be made available at that time. Please note that the length for submitted papers is intended to be somewhat shorter than the length of papers published in the proceedings in order to allow room for meaningful revisions in response to reviewers' comments. If you want your submission to be considered ONLY as a poster, please submit only a 2-page abstract.

The following information will be requested for the on-line submission database before you upload your paper or poster as a PDF, MSWord, RTF,or PS file:

  1. Contact author's name, email, and postal address;
  2. Title of the paper;
  3. Full names of all authors;
  4. A PDF, MSWord, RFT, or PS file containing your paper;

  6. 3 keywords in decreasing order of relevance. The keywords will be used in the index for the proceedings;
  7. Preference for presentation format: "Talk or Poster", "Talk Only", or "Poster Only". Accepted papers will be presented either as talks or posters, depending on authors' preference and reviewers' recommendations about which would be more suitable, and will not reflect the quality of the papers.

Deadline

Authors should submit their papers as soon as possible, but not later than 11:59 PM Pacific Standard Time on May 13th, 2002.

Camera-ready panel overviews will be required only after proposers are notified of acceptance. Appropriate formats will be made available at that time. Contact Philip Bell (icls@u.washington.edu) with questions about submitting special sessions.
