1999a

Cruise Description

The final research trip of the CRETM-LMER took place in the summer of 1999, a high flow period. This cruise leg immediately preceded the 1999b leg and provided a direct comparison between ETM dynamics in the Columbia River (extensively controlled by dams) and the Fraser River (essentially undammed). Two upstream series, two long series, and one downstream series made up the sampling schedule.

Vessels

1999 was the final of 10 trips aboard the R/V Robert Gordon Sproul, a research vessel from Scripps Oceanographic Institute in San Diego, CA. Our sedimentological, geochemical, microbial and ecological investigations were based on the Sproul.

Geophysical investigations in 1999 were conducted from the R/V Clifford Barnes.

Coding explanation for sampling series:

Letter Code: U upstream; D downstream; N neap tide; S spring tide; L long series
First Digit: Tidal Series
Second Digit: Sequence in Tidal Series

Example: U11 refers to the first sequence in the first upstream tidal series.
