Introduction  
Recycled products are becoming more widespread in their availability, cost-effectiveness, and applicability. The government has begun rating systems and incentives to encourage contractors to use recycled products. As networks for recycled products are appearing in Washington and other states, architects and builders are interested in learning more about recycled products.  
   
King County's definition of green building is: Designing, constructing and operating buildings and landscapes to incorporate energy efficiency, water conservation, waste minimization, pollution prevention, resource-efficient materials, and indoor environmental quality in all phases of a building's life (1999 Northwest Regional Sustainable Building Action Plan).
