Collaboration Beyond North America: CALIS Rare Book Union Catalogue

As a result of our collaboration with Peking University Library for this CLIR project, both UW and UBC libraries became members of the Rare Book Union Catalogue of Chinese Academic Library and Information System (CALIS, http://www.calis.edu.cn/).  Our two institutions are the first outside of China to join.

This has enabled both UW and UBC to make the records of string-bound Chinese books and rubbings cataloged through our CLIR project discoverable to users of the CALIS Rare Book Union Catalogue, which more effectively publicizes our collections to potential partners in China and worldwide for future collaborative projects such as digitization, research, and publication.

Of course, records for all project materials cataloged are also available worldwide via OCLC’s WorldCat database (http://www.worldcat.org) and to participating institutions via OCLC Connexion software, and on UW and UBC’s own library catalogs.
