Phyllospadix attached to a rocky substrate in low intertidal, which experiences high wave energy.

Habitat

Surf Grasses commonly reside in low intertidal and subtidal environments. The rhizomes of adult plants adhere to rocky substrates in high wave energy environments.

Range

Pacific Northwest Species


P. torreyi tends to grow from southern Vancouver Island to the Baja Peninsula P. serratula has a range from Alaska to Washington. P. scouleri can be found from Alaska to California. Habitat ranges can be seen in Fig. 1  (Wyllie- Echeverria S. and Ackerman, J.D and North America, 2008)
