Habitat

 

A patch of Saccharina sessile at low tide at Mar Vista, San Juan Island

 

Range: Aleutian Islands, AK to Monterey, CA and Russia on the Commander Islands (2)
All of San Juan Island, mostly on the west side. FHL herbarium specimens were collected from: Deadman's Bay, American Camp, , Hannah heights, Cattle Point, Point Renfrew and San Juan Point, B.C. among others

Habitat: marine, rocky intertidal (epilithic), sheltered bays to open coasts (4)

Saccharina sessile is dominant in the lower intertidal from AK to OR, especially areas of low to moderate wave exposure (1)
