Course Description
This class will prepare you for the Honors Study Abroad Program, "The Walled City: A Writing Studio in Rome," in Summer 2003. You will have the opportunity to learn about Rome from readings, research projects, discussions, and presentations. There will be a number of guest speakers and on-campus field trips during the quarter. There will also be one or more visits to a computer lab, where you will gain familiarity with the web site and on-line writing templates that will be used in Rome. Through participation in these activities you will begin to develop the observation, writing, and computer skills necessary for success in the Rome Program.

Assignments and Activities
There will be four short writing assignments, along with regular postings to an electronic discussion board.  The writing assignments consist of two response papers (1 page), a research project (2-3 pages), and a final project (4-5 pages). Details on the assignments will be posted to the class web site throughout the quarter. All of the activities and assignments for this class directly connect to the Rome Program.

Grading
This is a 2-credit course graded on a credit/no credit basis. Grading is based on active class participation and the thoughtful completion of all writing assignments.
