Need some pointers for navigating your first research project of the quarter? We're happy to help you find materials on a drop-in basis whenever the library is open. Saturdays the library is open 9 am to 3 pm, and Mondays we're open noon to 8 pm. Tuesday-Friday you'll find librarians on duty 9 to 5. If you'd like a one-on-one meeting with a librarian who can teach you how to find journal articles and other resources to pursue your topic efficiently and successfully, just email hortlib@uw.edu or call 206-543-0415. Faculty and returning students: please share this information with those who are new!

Hear the Elisabeth C. Miller Memorial Lecture by October 31
Rebecca McMacken
The Elisabeth C. Miller Memorial Lecture is offered pre-recorded this year, with Rebecca McMackin presenting New Techniques in Ecological Horticulture: Beauty and Butterflies at Brooklyn Bridge Park. An acclaimed garden designer and horticulturist, McMackin worked for a decade as Director of Horticulture at Brooklyn Bridge Park.

This 85-acre organic park in the middle of New York City, was created with ecology in mind. The Park’s award-winning piers host top notch recreation, from opera to outdoor films, and the piers also contain native woodlands, freshwater wetlands, salt marshes, and numerous meadows. These areas closely echo native ecosystems and are managed with an emphasis on wildlife habitat. The talk will detail many of the strategies employed to design an ecological park, as well as the management techniques used to cultivate a biodiverse parkland.

Listen and watch anytime between now and October 31. Contact the Miller Garden staff at info@millergarden.org for more information.
