  Connection to Research

From what I had read on Trastevere I had gathered that it would be ulta-trendy and hip, but upon visiting that was not my impression. It had a different look than downtown Rome, more modern (but whats not when compared to the Pantheon?), but otherwise seemed very ordinary to me.

  Element of Interest

My favorite spot in Trastevere is Gianicolo Hill. It's the highest point in the city and definitely the best place to watch the sunrise as Rome's entire skyline lies east of it. Also, at noon every day a cannon is fired from the top, reverberating all over town. Truthfully, I only noticed the cannon blast once, but I trust it's a daily routine.

  Questions

How the heck do you pronounce Trastevere?

When I first researched it, I would say "Trasta-vare-ay." Wrong. Shawn corrected me during my presentation. "Trast-ever-ay." But I'm sorry Shawn, you are also wrong. After hearing real live Italians say it, I've learned its ACTUALLY said "Trast-AY-ver-ay."

  Image Analysis

Santa Maria in Trastevere

This image shows beautifully the oldest and first church dedicated to the Virgin Mary, but leaves out the large square in front. The square has a beautiful fountain and creates the perfect entrance for the historical church.
