  Itinerary

Our last day in Rome was a free day until dinner. Some of us scrambled to put the last minute finishing touches on our final term assignments. Those that were done hit the town to spend what remained of their Euros. Many went in search of posters of the Campo, final leather purchases, and other last minute souvenirs. Others went on final visits to galleries including the Galleria Corsini and the Galleria Spada. Some wanted last minute pictures in front of monuments. Our farewell dinner at 6:00 pm was cooked by Bill Guion at Shawn’s apartment. After an amazing dinner of great antipasti, pumpkin risotto, pork roast, and chocolate carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, we all watched the impartially judged and long awaited tackiest souvenir contest. We also witnessed Peter’s first birthday festivities. The evening was spent packing, viewing the forum and Colosseum at night, and saying our final goodbyes to a city that’s been our home for a month.

  Highlights

The tackiest souvenir contest was the highlight of our final day in Rome. Competition was tough. Third place was awarded to Jenny’s Mussolini apron. She received a poster of the Campo showing all the buildings and Bruno. Second place went to Eliana and Megan’s blue glitter covered plaster Pietá framed by a plaster sea shell. A European style coffee pot was their prize. The coveted first place bottle of Grappa was awarded to Stephanie’s gigantic glow in the dark rosary. Other entries included a Whitney’s snow globe with the Pope towering over St. Peter’s square, Paul M’s half empty lemoncello in a cello shaped bottle, Paul L’s Guinuess drum “barrowed” (not stolen) from their apartment, Kia’s baby lighter, Mary and Jesus hologram, and glow in the dark baby Jesus, Ben’s hologram of the Pope, arms outstretched, towering over St. Peters, Cara’s David boxers, and my glow in the dark wind up nun.
