Difficulty shopping?! - what a concept
Your Shopping Diary 1 of 1

It was definitely a shock when I woke up on day 1 hungry and no food was in my pantry. It wasn’t until I actually stepped out into the Campo di Fiori at 9am on August 23rd that I finally understood what everyone meant when they told me I would to buy my food in the “square” before each meal. I actually didn’t know where to start and with no Italian under my belt, I couldn’t imagine how I would manage to feed myself. I stumbled awkwardly up to the nicest looking old man I could find and pointed to an apple, hoping he would not try and talk to me. Thankfully, he must have been used to Americans because he smiled and handed me “una mela”, showing me with his fingers how much I owed him. I was pleasantly surprised how easy, and almost even fun, it was to shop. The next morning when I woke up, I circled around a few vendors and scoped out the goods before I settled on an apple from a stand in the corner that the local Italians seemed to favor.
