  Rating

Four and 9/10 stars

  Price Range

Forno is a bread shop. It doesn't have full meals, but lots of bread, some pizza, dolci, and cappucino. A snack or serving can run anywhere from 2 to 5 euro! Very inexpensive!! You can buy panne to compliment an already planned dinner, dolci to top it off, a small lunch or snack, or a tin of ground espresso for all those difficult mornings.

  Time of Visit

I visit often, every few days during siesta (around 1:00 pm or 13:00 Italian time).

  Description

Forno is a very small establishment, the door is relatively wide, but takes up nearly half the width of the building itself. Inside the store, prepare to stand touching shoulders with the customer beside you. Edge your way up to the counter as best you can. Have patience, although not too much is necessary. The bakers are fast, attentive, and never short or flustered. The atmosphere is extremely casual, filled mostly with locals, buying bread or dessert for dinner and a few tourists wanting lunch or an afternoon snack. It's not a sit-down restaurant, but there are plenty of places (including a beautiful fountain) right outside Forno where one can stand or sit and eat.

As you walk in, breathe in deeply. La perfuma of the bakery is sweet and warm. It fills the senses. Watch for the elderly baker with a large gray mustache, a thin face, and spectacles. He'll always have a smile and a series of vibrant hand gestures. It is obvious that he enjoys his work. Watch as he or any of the other bakers slice bread or pizza. Chop! One would think they were slicing carrots, cucumber, or other hard vegetable. With one giant blow, the knife sails effortlessly through the panna, to the cutting board. I've never seen bread cut so slickly.

  Menu

The normal tradition (here one week and already I have a tradition) is to purchase some pizza bianca, to take it home and cook it with oil, basil, tomatoes and mozzerella. The tins of espresso grounds last for many caffiene fixes and the cappucinos it produces are delectable. The other breads and desserts call my name every time I visit. I'll indulge hopefully in all of their creations eventually. Remembering to pace myself is key.

  Review

The breads, desserts, and pizzas are fresh and molto bene. The service is friendly and animated. I'm most thankful to Forno for my morning cappucinos, but then again, there is nothing I wouldn't recommend.
