I visted several times over the course of our program, Aug. 23 - Sept. 20. The service and food were consistantly wonderful, and I am excited to go back again next time I am in Rome!

La Scaletta Degli Artisti is a pretty trattoria where the food is tasty and surprisingly well-priced. The small inside is decorated with a mix of Roman photos, paintings, and a mural or two. The best tables, especially on warm days, are the ones under the umbrellas on the sidewalk. Dining was informal and casual, but it was always busy for dinner time, so call ahead to reserve a table if you are visiting during the peak travelling season.

If the daily special is not to your liking, a traditional appetizer of procuitto and melon or bruschetta with tomatoes leads the way to a feast of sixteen different pastas to choose from. I would skip the pizza and order the gnocchi, fettuccini with mushrooms, or the buccatini with bacon and spicy tomato sauce. Good secondi dishes include the homemade meatballs with peas along with a side of fresh artichokes or roast potatoes. The dessert menu makes up for its lack of diversity with quality - the tiramisu, creme caramel, and panna cotta are all made here and a wonderful ending to a satisfying meal. The menu is in Italian and there is limited English spoken here, but the waiters are extremely friendly and helpful (and I would always follow their reccomendations when in doubt about what to order).
