Location |

Via Mazzarino 16 (the address on the door is Via Panisperna though, but it is on Mazzarino)
This church is located in the Quirinal district at the intersection of Via Mazzarino and Via Panisperna. From the Campo head over to the Victor Emmanuel Monument and from there head west (past two churches and up some stairs to a large intersection). If you get on the Via Nazionale, then Via Panisperna should be on your right (they run parallel to each other). Go down that street and take a left on Via Mazzarino and the church in on your right.

Description |
|
The church's hours are 7-9am and 4-7pm Monday-Saturday, and 8:30am-noon and 4-7 on Sundays.
This church is of Gothic design, which makes it unusual in regards to pretty much all the other churches that you see in Rome. The interior is very plain compared to the other churches we have seen. The one extravagance that seems to have been made is the red velvet on the benches and alter. The courtyard of the church is beautiful and is actually what attracted me to it. When you walk into the doors of the church you immediately step into a small, quiet courtyard and out of the noisy streets. I had a hard time leaving it to go into the church. It seemed like a great place to sit and write if I had more time.

Story of Discovery |
|
When I was back in Seattle I was going through my guide book and I came across a picture of a courtyard that I thought was really pretty. After seeing the picture I decided that I would find this courtyard when I got to Rome.

Element of Interest |
|
The picture in the guidebook of the 18th century courtyard was what first captured my attention. I did not realize that it was in a church until recently when I was going through my guidebook to do this assignment. And I actually thought that it was probably in an old house. The more I thought about it I began to wonder where the courtyard was situated within the church and so I had even more an urge to go see it.

When I walked in I was immediately hit with the fragrant smell of lilies. The courtyard was fill with vegetation and it was very serene. There were no tourists there and though the church is located near the busy Via Nazionale, the walls of the church blocked out the sound of the traffic. I barely walked into the actual church because I enjoyed walking around the courtyard so much.
