  Site History

This, needless to say, is the site where Cecilia Matella is buried. Cecilia Matella was the daughter-in-law of Crassus, a powerful consul and general, as well as the richest man in Rome, during the time of Julius Caesar. He gained a significant amount of his wealth through his own private fire brigade. When a house was on fire, he would buy the house cheap, and then put out the fire.
