  Description

The restaurant is located about 50 meters north of the Teatro Marcello. The best time of day is in the early evening before the area gets too crowded because you have a clear view of the ruins when dining outside. On Saturday evenings in the summer there is a group that sings in the Teatro, providing unique background music for the dining experience.

  Story of Discovery

Ben, Anabelle, Robert, and I decided that we wanted to eat in the Jewish Ghetto because Ben's dad had recommended that we try a dish, artichoke Jewish style, that could only be found in Rome. We walked around the streets and stopped at this restaurant because it had the item on the menu along with other dishes that looked interesting.

  Element of Interest

This restaurant is unique because I had the only meal that I didn't like in Italy there. The special artichoke dish was a whole artichoke that had been deep-fried in a vat of oil. All of the leaves were crispy and tasted like potato chips and the heart of the artichoke was overwhelmingly oily. For my meal I had ordered pasta with artichoke which again was drenched in olive oil.

Ben made the mistake of ordering a mystery meat, coratella con carciofi, for his secondi. The plate arrived and it was a towering mound of brown mush, slices of different kinds of meat mixed with artichoke. We had a fun time trying to figure out what each piece was and finally asked a waiter what 'coratella' meant. He said that it was liver and the surrounding organs but Ben looked it up on the internet to discover that coratella is lamb innards, specifically heart, kidney, lungs, and liver.

Anabelle and Robert both ordered seafood pastas and thoroughly enjoyed their meals. I highly recommend avoiding anything that includes artichokes (carciofi) at this restaurant.

This restaurant would have left a bad taste in my mouth had it not been for the scenery, the bruschetta, and the complimentary limoncello nightcap. Though the food was subpar, the service was excellent and the location was unique. I would like to go back there and try ordering a completely different meal, I am pretty sure that I would have had an entirely opposite experience.
