My quarter in León was life-changing. From visiting art museums and historical sites to frequenting the same cafe and eating loaves of bread on the walk home from class, I was able to improve my language ability and learn about the rich culture of Spain. I entered with high expectations and this program exceeded them across the board. It can be daunting to step off the plane by yourself in a foreign country, but I promise if you take the leap you will be rewarded. Studying abroad is such a unique experience and the memories and friendships you make are so special – I will be sharing stories from Spain for the rest of my life. The people you meet, the places you visit, the food you eat – all of it is transformative. I am already counting the days to go back.

It sounds totally cliché to say that studying abroad changes your life, but there really is so much that you learn, not only about yourself, but about the world we live in. I cannot recommend the León program enough. It was the most wonderful experience. You have the opportunity to radically improve your spanish and cultural awareness in the span of 10 weeks. León was the perfect city to study in. It was large enough to have urban centers and plenty of things to do, but wasn’t super touristy, so you could actually start feeling like you belonged there. The host families in the program are what make it so rewarding. You are truly immersed in Spanish culture, and have the opportunity to create lasting relationships with the people you live with. The classes were super interesting and added context to our time in Spain as well as the excursions we went on with the cohort. You get to know the people in your group, and your directors really well and it makes for a fun community. Personally, I think any study abroad experience is what you make of it, and if you want it to be incredible and meaningful, it will be. The León program made it so easy to fall into that mindset, and I highly recommend it.

I had a wonderful time during my study abroad in León, Spain. The people are so warm and welcoming, which definitely makes it easier to be so far from home. I didn’t know anyone before the program started, but I made so many new friends and got to explore with an awesome group of people. Definitely make time to travel around Spain outside of the places you will visit on excursions. Spain has a lot to see and a lot of history to learn, and you will not be let down by any of the sights. Be prepared to learn a lot of Spanish and don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Make the most of this once in a lifetime experience!

My trip to Leon, Spain, was a true adventure despite the challenges of obtaining documents and a visa since I’m not a US Citizen. The warm hospitality of my host family provided a genuine and insightful fact into local life, creating a home away from home. They cooked and wash clothes for me lol.
Also, the super-friendly culture of Spain, evident in every interaction and exploration of charming streets and local cuisine, left a lasting impression. Additionally, Catholic history reflected in magnificent infrastructure and centuries-old landmarks, added a profound layer to catholic beliefs. This transformative journey not only broadened my cultural horizons but also instilled a deep appreciation for the beauty and warmth of Spanish life, making it an unforgettable chapter in my travels

I loved this experience! I learned a lot, I would recommend it for any other open-minded student who craves new experiences. Be prepared to walk a lot!

I went to Leon, Spain in the Summer 2023 program and had a great time there! There was a two week festival going on that let me explore the city with endless things to do. I’d love to go back one day!
