Having lived and worked in both China and Japan for many years, I offer native-level fluency in Mandarin Chinese and professional-level Japanese. I am comfortable guiding learners of all levels, from absolute beginners to upper-intermediate speakers. My Specializations: 1.Business Culture & Etiquette: Drawing from my professional background as a consultant in Japan, I provide deep insights into Japanese corporate culture and the nuances of professional communication in East Asia. 2.Cognitive Linguistics: I am fascinated by how language shapes our mindset. Rather than just teaching vocabulary, I focus on explaining the underlying logic and cultural psychology behind how we express ideas in Asian languages.

I am a passionate language learner offering instruction in Chinese, French, and English. I’m a native Chinese speaker. I have completed six French courses at UW, earning a 4.0 in all classes. I believe language learning should be practical, engaging, and confidence-building. My goal is to help students not only understand grammar and vocabulary, but also develop real-world communication skills.

I am intrinsically motivated to teach and am deeply passionate about Mandarin Chinese, both as a profession and as a personal interest. I can speak and understand English at a functional level. I studied most of my English in college and also completed a summer study program in the United States. I have taught students from diverse linguistic backgrounds with a variety of English accents. In my teaching practice, I prefer to use Mandarin as much as possible, even with beginners, by employing simple vocabulary to promote comprehension and build confidence. For advanced learners, I incorporate slang to help them speak more authentically. I encourage students to speak freely, even when their language production is grammatically inaccurate, and I provide constructive feedback to support their progress. For younger learners, I use visual aids, toys, and puppets to capture their attention. My lessons are highly interactive and participatory, while also allowing students time to become comfortable before actively contributing. I strongly believe that learners become effective communicators through active communication with both teachers and peers. I have been teaching Chinese for just under five years, beginning during the COVID-19 pandemic. I was born and raised in a country where Chinese is an official language and grew up in a predominantly Chinese-speaking environment. Most importantly, I have passed the written examination for the CTCSOL (Certificate for Teachers of Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages) and am applying for an interview. I also have a strong background in Chinese literature, poetry, and linguistics. I am a patient teacher and understand the challenges involved in acquiring a second language.

I am the president of the Han Chinese Culture Association at the University of Washington, with a strong background in Chinese literature. I can support students who wish to gain a systematic introductory understanding of traditional Chinese culture and the Chinese language. I excel at analyzing the structure and origins of the Chinese language and complement this with explanations of its cultural connotations, making it easier for students to remember and understand.
