"A.I." and Language Learning

Student Perspectives

The University of Washington Language Learning Center is conducting the following research project. We are interested in learning more about student perspectives and uses of “AI” tools (e.g., Chat GPT) for language learning whether in class or independently. (The term “AI” is being used to refer to general tools that rely on large language models and other large data sets, and not any abstract notion of hypothetical “artificial intelligence.”)

The survey includes 13 brief questions. We estimate that it will take the average respondent between 5-15 minutes to read and complete the survey. There is no compensation for participation, but your time and responses are appreciated and your responses will help us better understand the opinions and needs of postsecondary students. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the researchers at llc@uw.edu [University of Washington, Language Learning Center] | Data from the study will be used to create a report that will be made available at future language learning events and on the website of the University of Washington Language Learning Center. Submission period open until June 30th, 2024.

Instructor Perspectives

The University of Washington Language Learning Center is conducting the following research project. We are interested in learning more about instructor perspectives and uses of “AI” tools (e.g., Chat GPT) for language learning and teaching. (The term “AI” is being used to refer to general tools that rely on large language models and other large data sets, and not any abstract notion of hypothetical “artificial intelligence.”)

The survey includes 14 questions. We estimate that it will take the average respondent between 5-15 minutes to read and complete the survey. There is no compensation for participation, but your time and responses are appreciated and your responses will help us better understand the opinions and needs of postsecondary language instructors. If you have any questions, please email the research team at llc@uw.edu. Submission period open until June 30th, 2024.
