About the Workshop

This workshop will explore how to recognize and mitigate language bias on campus, whether in the classroom or in other contexts. It will address questions like "What is language bias?" and how does language bias affect our goal of creating a more welcoming, equitable and enriching environment for all individuals on campus?

This workshop is hosted by the UW working group on Linguistic bias which aims to engage all members of the UW community in the acknowledgment of language diversity on campus and the role of linguistic bias in diversity, equity, and inclusion.

We understand that minor emotional discomfort might emerge when discussing topics like bias and discrimination. We are committed to making this workshop accessible to everybody and minimize the chance of anyone feeling uncomfortable. We will be available to offer support if this happens.
