A Message from Sigrid

Welcome to Spring quarter! I hope all of you had a wonderful break and you’re coming back refreshed and ready to go!

As you settle back into student-mode this week, I have a couple of items to highlight:

1st year MBAs:

If you haven’t already met with me to discuss your academic plan for next year, please make your appointment soon, using the appointment scheduling link. The deadline to complete this task is May 4.

2nd year MBAs:

You should have received an email with your final progress-to-degree message concerning finishing up your degree requirements this quarter. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me ASAP. I want to see all of you crossing the stage to receive your diploma in June!

Finally, be sure and take some time to take a walk over to the quad this week to see the cherry trees in bloom. It’s a sight not to be missed!

Have a good week,

CLASS OF 2018: GRADUATION INFORMATION

Now’s the time…
To officially apply for graduation in June! In addition to successfully fulfilling your degree requirements, YOU MUST:

Step 1: File for graduation with the University
Step 2: Complete the Graduating Student Survey by April 16
Note: The last day to apply for graduation is June 1, but don't wait until the last minute!
Step 3: Get your garb! All students must wear proper academic attire during the Graduation Ceremony. You will not be allowed to walk if you are not properly attired. You may purchase/obtain proper academic attire either through the University website (dates to be announced) or alumni from previous years. If you choose to obtain your attire from an alum please e-mail Jenny Forbes at the MPO to advise.

International Students: Guest Visa Support Letters
International students, are your family members planning to attend the graduation ceremony on June 9? If so, the MBA Program Office can write you a letter confirming your enrollment and pending graduation from the program to support their visa applications. Email mbaweb to request a letter. ISS also has some tips for strengthening their applications.

Please include:

  • Their names
  • Their relation to you
  • Their estimated date of arrival in the US
  • Their estimated date of departure from the US

Graduation Tickets
Please indicate in the Graduating Student Survey the number of tickets you are requesting (max 4). The MBA Programs Office can only guarantee 3 per student. Please note that graduating students do not need tickets. Once all tickets have been allocated, any additional tickets will be issued to those requesting a 4th ticket using a random lottery. You will be notified if you have received an extra ticket via e-mail.

After the lottery, the MBAA will also set up a google spreadsheet that is not monitored by the MBA Programs Office. You may use this spreadsheet, or any method available to you, to trade with a fellow student for additional tickets.

Fellowships & Financial Aid

CLASS OF 2018: SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION REMINDER

2nd-Year Scholarships – Application Period ends April 15, 2018

While there is no priority if you submit the application early, it is important to complete the application process by the priority deadline of April 15. Another step that domestic students (i.e., US citizens and permanent residents) should take is to file the FAFSA, even if you don’t think you will have need. If you’ve already done so, great! If not, you can still do this important step.

For more details about the scholarship award process, visit the Resources page of the Current Students website and open the "Scholarships and Financial Aid" section. Questions? Please direct them to mbaschol@uw.edu.

TheWashBoard.org

As we approach the opening of our scholarship window on March 1st, we also want you to be aware of opportunities outside of the MBA Program Office. One of the sites you may want to explore is TheWashBoard.org. According to their site, “TheWashBoard.org is committed to increasing access to scholarships and financial aid for Washington students. Launched in 2010, theWashBoard.org, a free, web-based scholarship matching clearinghouse for Washington residents and students, serves as a simple and central scholarship search and application resource.”

Current opportunity:  PSBJ’s Women of Influence – Lytle Enterprises Scholarship - $7,500
In 2006, the Puget Sound Business Journal and Chuck and Karen Lytle joined forces to create the Puget Sound Business Journal’s Women of Influence-Lytle Enterprises Scholarship Fund. The Women of Influence Awards celebrate the leadership of women in the business world and in the larger community. To be a Woman of Influence, one must evidence not only leadership and achievement in business and in the community, but also be a mentor to other women. This scholarship puts money behind that message. This scholarship will enable a woman of potential to develop her leadership and business acumen in a local graduate school of business. In addition to providing financial support toward the scholarship winner’s education, the members of our stellar and prestigious Women of Influence advisory board will make themselves available to mentor her, providing her with a truly powerful launching pad.
