This week’s message brings kudos to all of the first year MBAs! They very effectively and graciously participated in a SHORT & BUSY first week of Winter quarter: LEAD follow-up session and the case competition! Well done! Special congratulations to the winning teams!

Also, a big thank you to the MBA Strategy Club members (Courtney Wenneborg, Amanda Lowe, Pratham Bagade, and Julia Gilroy) for participating as judges, MBA Program Office Staff members who served as room hosts (Alexsis Scott, Matt Guenther, Megan Lewis, and Amber Janke), and finally three very special MBA Operations and Student Affairs staff members (Ky Pham, Matthew Unruh, and Jenny Forbes) who are the reason this event ran so smoothly!

Safety Announcement
With the short days of Winter upon us, please take advantage of the UW's safety programs below.
Husky Nightwalk, 206-685-WALK (9255)
Uniformed security guards operate 6:30 pm-2:00 am, seven days week, 365 days a year, providing a walking escort to community members within the campus locations, the residential area north of 45th street, and to the UW Tower location. They also can assist with building lockouts and jump starts for dead batteries. When members from the campus community need help, call 206.685.WALK (9255). For more information, please see this link.
Husky Night Ride
NightRide is a U-PASS sponsored shuttle service for students, faculty, and staff. Passengers can board the NightRide from any one of six on-campus stops and be dropped off at any requested location within the two shuttle zones. Schedules are prominently displayed at all stops, and schedules are available at information kiosks around campus. NightRide schedules are also available online. Wheelchair-accessible shuttles service both zones. Call 206.685.3146 or visit www.uwshuttles.com for more information about this and other UW shuttle services. Note that NightRide is not available during the summer.

Registration Deadlines for Winter Quarter
Wait…What? We will be Bidding on Electives for Spring Quarter in January?
Yes, it’s true. Bidding for Spring Quarter electives will begin later this month. 2nd Year MBAs will have the opportunity to bid first (since this will be their last chance to take Foster classes), followed by 1st Year MBAs who will be bidding on 8 credits of electives to add to their core schedule in Spring. See the bidding schedule below and 1st Years – don’t worry, there is a required workshop where we will teach you how the bidding system works AND provide you some tips (see details below).
- 2nd Year MBA Bidding Opens: Tuesday, January 23 at 8:00am
- 2nd Year MBA Bidding Closes: Sunday, January 28 at 10:00pm
- 1st Year MBA Bidding Opens: Tuesday, January 30 at 8:00am
- 1st Year MBA Bidding Closes: Sunday, February 4 at 10:00pm

Applying for Graduation
If you are planning to graduate at the end of the quarter (Winter 2018), you should file for graduation no later than March 9, 2018. You need to complete the Master's Degree Application on the Graduate School website to file for graduation. If you would like to do a degree check to determine where you stand with regard to your degree requirements, send a request to mbaregis@uw.edu and we will send you an update.

UPCOMING PRIORITY COMPETITIONS
ACG CUP NORTHWEST CASE COMPETITION
The Association for Corporate Growth (ACG) hosts MBA case competitions in major US financial markets each winter. For the second year, a competition will be held in the Northwest pitting the best MBA programs in Washington vs those in Oregon. This is a great opportunity to meet and network with executives from financial community and present your team's solution to the case in front of a stellar group of judges from the field of M&A (investment bankers, legal, accounting and bankers). Semi-finals will be held simultaneously on February 16, 2018 in PACCAR Hall and on the PSU campus in Portland. Finals will be held March 1, 2018, at Multnomah Athletic Club in Portland.

PARAMOUNT CASE COMPETITION
The 2018 UCLA Anderson Center for MEMES MBA Entertainment Case Competition brings together teams of MBA students from top universities around the country to analyze and present a solution to a real-world entertainment business problem. The UCLA Anderson Center for MEMES created this competition to provide students with a competitive learning experience and help them gain exposure to real challenges currently impacting the media and entertainment space.Teams will compete for $4,000 in prize money and a 2018 summer internship with Paramount Studios.*
*Only first-year students are eligible for the internship.
