A Message from Sigrid

Happy Monday!

At this point you all should have registered for Spring quarter; however, please know you still have the option to add classes to your schedule over the next few weeks. See below the list of electives that have space available and email mbaregis@uw.edu to request an add code. We will be managing the wait lists and distributing add codes for electives through March 16.

As we enter week 9 of the quarter, where deadlines for final deliverables are looming and exams are coming up, I’d like to remind you to practice good self-care, manage your time well, and be supportive of each other. Towards that end, I’d like to give a shout out to the Healthcare and Biotechnology Club and the MBAA for offering the Power of Meditation workshop this last week and providing us with tools for good self-care.

Have a good week,

Field Study Opportunities for Spring Quarter

Class of 2018- Field Study Sponsor/Student Reception Tuesday, February 27 in Douglas Forum
Field Study is the opportunity to consult on an MBA scoped project at a company vetted by Foster for academic credit. Companies will be invited to this career-fair style event to introduce their Field Study projects and speak with prospective students. MBA students are encouraged to attend this event to learn more about the projects and make connections with the sponsoring companies. If you choose to move forward, you will form a team of 4-5 students and apply for the Field Study project(s) you are interested in (no more than 3 per team). If your team is selected, you will work on the project spring quarter and you will earn 4-credits (BA578). You will be charged tuition accordingly. Field Study projects fulfil a practical experience requirement. These projects are open to the class of 2018.

Please use this link to RSVP for the reception. For more information please contact Jen Bauermeister.

Scholarship Information

2nd-Year Scholarships – Application Period Begins March 1
Watch for an email to come to you Thursday which will provide you with the link to apply for a 2018-19 continuing student scholarship. You will need to complete 2 online applications: the first is a general application on which you indicate that you are applying for MBA student scholarships and upload your resume; the second has questions specific to various MBA scholarship opportunities which will help us match qualified students to funds. The MBA specific application includes several short essays regarding your career goals, community activities, examples of leadership, and why you believe you should be selected as a scholarship recipient. Students who already have a guaranteed second-year scholarship and/or NRD must also complete the application so that we can match you to appropriate funds.

The application for MBA scholarships will be available through April 15, 2018. While there is no priority if you submit the application early, it is important to complete the application process by the priority deadline of April 15. Another step that domestic students (i.e., US citizens and permanent residents) should take is to file the FAFSA, even if you don’t think you will have need. If you’ve already done so, great! If not, you can still do this important step.

For more details about the scholarship award process, visit the Resources page of the Current Students website and open the "Scholarships and Financial Aid" section. Questions? Please direct them to mbaschol@uw.edu.

TheWashBoard.org

As we approach the opening of our scholarship window on March 1st, we also want you to be aware of opportunities outside of the MBA Program Office. One of the sites you may want to explore is TheWashBoard.org. According to their site, “TheWashBoard.org is committed to increasing access to scholarships and financial aid for Washington students. Launched in 2010, theWashBoard.org, a free, web-based scholarship matching clearinghouse for Washington residents and students, serves as a simple and central scholarship search and application resource.”

Current opportunity:  PSBJ’s Women of Influence – Lytle Enterprises Scholarship - $7,500

In 2006, the Puget Sound Business Journal and Chuck and Karen Lytle joined forces to create the Puget Sound Business Journal’s Women of Influence-Lytle Enterprises Scholarship Fund. The Women of Influence Awards celebrate the leadership of women in the business world and in the larger community. To be a Woman of Influence, one must evidence not only leadership and achievement in business and in the community, but also be a mentor to other women. This scholarship puts money behind that message. This scholarship will enable a woman of potential to develop her leadership and business acumen in a local graduate school of business. In addition to providing financial support toward the scholarship winner’s education, the members of our stellar and prestigious Women of Influence advisory board will make themselves available to mentor her, providing her with a truly powerful launching pad.

Scholarship Amount: $7,500.00
Number of Awards: 3
Application Due Date: April 23, 2018
Two additional $1,000 awards will be provided to semi-finalists
