| The patient is in need of a space maintainer to prevent mesial movement or tipping of the first permanent molars. A Nance Holding Arch usually is the appliance of choice in this situation. A removable appliance could be used, but is not recommended for the usual reasons mentioned throughout the chapter. A Nance Appliance designed for the mixed and permanent dentitions is shown in the photograph. |
