After heating, the impression tray material can be cooled until it reaches the correct consistency and temperature. The essential consideration is to insure that the material is warm enough to flow but is sufficiently cool so not to burn the child. Having the patient stick out their tongue and touch the material is one method of insuring that the material has cooled satisfactorily.
