This photograph demonstrates the wire as it has been adapted to the cast. It should be emphasized that the wire needs to be adapted close to the tissue so that it will be comfortable for the child. The wire should be adapted in close approximation to the tissue, but not touching the tissue, so that the tongue can not get under the wire and cause irritation. It is necessary for the wire to be adapted closely to the band to produce a strong but not too bulky solder joint.
