Learning Objectives

On completing this module, the provider should be able to:

  • Describe how to perform a neurologic assessment using:
    1. Glasgow Coma Scale
    2. AVPU Pediatric Response Scale
  • Understand the physiologic principles governing intracranial pressure (ICP) and cerebral perfusion pressure (CPP)
  • Assess for signs of raised ICP or herniation syndrome
  • State the methods of lowering raised ICP
  • Recognize signs of potential child abuse
