UW PREP – Research Opportunity

The University of Washington and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center are proud to announce a new 4-year PREP post-baccalaureate diversity research program, supported by the NIH. We will be able to offer 6-7 research fellowships each year, starting in June 2012

The goal of the program is to bring underrepresented and disadvantaged students to UW for one year following their graduation with a baccalaureate degree to facilitate their subsequent enrollment into graduate school in the sciences. The target population would be students with a strong interest in pursuing a graduate degree in the biological sciences. Particularly suitable candidates would be students that may not have the necessary laboratory experience; that may have decided late in their undergraduate career to pursue a career in the sciences; or, that may need additional upper-level course work to provide confidence of successful matriculation in graduate school.

This project provides a great opportunity for under-represented, underprivileged and disabled students to work in a research laboratory at the University of Washington and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center under the direct mentorship of world-class scientists. In addition, the students will receive supplemental training in scientific writing, literature evaluation, and interaction with the academic scientific community.

We would be very grateful if you could bring this program announcement and the enclosed application material to the attention of suitable candidates and to your colleagues.

Best Regards

Gabriele Varani, Principal Investigator UW PREP Professor of Biochemistry and Professor of Chemistry
