Volunteer Opportunity – Help Those in Need Access Food, Utility Assistance, and Health Care

Want to be a part of two incredible United Way volunteer efforts at once? Become a Bridge to Basics volunteer at one of United Way’s Free Tax Campaign sites!

Program: The United Way of King County’s Bridge to Basics program puts volunteers in the community to connect folks with important services such as Basic Food (food stamps), low-cost healthcare options, utility assistance, and other community resources. Many community members don’t realize they are eligible for these services that can help them through hard times.

You can help! For the first time ever, we are expanding Bridge to Basics to ALL of United Way’s Free Tax Campaign tax prep sites during tax season from January – April 2012. The United Way’s free tax campaign offers free tax preparation and e-filing done by over 600 of our IRS-certified volunteers. You can be part of this huge effort and help us meet our goal of putting more than $20 million back into the pockets of low-and moderate-income working individuals and families in King County – AND – you can help hundreds of families meet their basic needs by connecting them with public assistance benefits.

Your role: As a Bridge to Basics Intake volunteer at a tax site you commit to volunteering once a week from January until early April at a tax prep site. You’ll greet clients as they come in the door, give them intake paperwork, and then screen clients for benefits eligibility as they wait for tax help. If they are eligible and interested, you help them apply on a computer. It’s easy!

This is NOT a tax preparer position –other volunteers on site will be helping clients with filing their taxes.

To Register: Simply CLICK HERE

Training: No skill set required! We provide the training. While registering for your site and shift, you will be asked to register for Bridge to Basics + Intake training! You have the choice of one of the following: January 7th, 8th OR 14th from 9:30 – 2pm at South Seattle Community College. Lunch will be provided.
