AED Update

Bone Marrow Drive

AED has volunteered to help out a medical school organization called APAMSA, which aims to bring awareness about the health issues that Asian Americans face, by advertising, recruiting, and educating people about bone marrow donations. To do this we need volunteers to help us table in Red Square on Monday May 7th from 10am-3pm in one hour shifts. What volunteers need to do is to attend a presentation and training session the week before the drive which will be run by Puget Sound Blood Bank. There are two training sessions: May 2nd from 5:30-7:30 in Health Sciences T550 or May 3rd 5:00-7:00 at By George.

If you would like to help out please send an email to AED volunteer coordinator Lesley Hahn at hahn.lesley@gmail.com and let her know the hour that you would be available to volunteer, which training session you can attend, and your phone number. Thanks!

Plus a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Relay for Life. This is a great chance to not only support a great cause, but to also get a great deal on preparing for one of the toughest tests you’ll have to face on your journey to medical school! Cinco De Mayo Hope Heart Fundraiser!

107.7 The End radio station has selected The Hope Heart Institute as the beneficiary of their Cinco de Mayo 5k run and Taco Challenge. This is going to be a HUGE exposure opportunity for The Hope Heart Institute to get our message and resources to the general public. As for volunteers, we are looking for AED volunteers to join us on Saturday, May 5 from 8:30AM-7PM at the Volunteer Park in Seattle.

We are able to split up the volunteer roles as follows:

5K Run Volunteers 8:30AM-11:30AM

10 volunteers to help with registration and other supporting roles.

Beer Garden Volunteers 11:30AM-7PM

10 volunteers who are 21+ to help with the Taco Challege/Beer Garden after the 5k run. 5k Run Volunteers can shift over to Beer Garden roles if they are over 21 and wish to stay and volunteer after the run.

We just need at least 10 people for each role so if people want to shift over and stay that is fine otherwise we can incorporate 21+ volunteer later who cannot volunteer in the morning.

While tacos and beer obviously aren’t the most heart-healthy food this is a great opportunity for The Hope to provide education and outreach to populations which we might not otherwise had the opportunity to reach. At The Hope we encourage moderation and educate people on healthier choices. We see this as a perfect opportunity to do so without alienating any populations.

*If you would like to be a volunteer with AED at the run please contact the Philanthropy chair Lesley Hahn by sending her an email with the time you would like to volunteer, your name, and your phone number at hahn.lesley@gmail.com.

For more information on the run itself you can visit the official site at:

That’s all for now folks~ Have a great week
