Big picture view: The Health Equity Circle is an interdisciplinary group of students concerned with health equity and working on campus and with community groups to build an equitable society through the lens of health. Our purpose is organizing, we bring people together to utilize their collective power to create tangible change. When there is interest in a specific problem the Core Team will create a working group or partnership with other student groups to find a way to cut a problem (ie poverty, racial disparities) into an actionable issue that students can work on (ie creating a fellowship for underserved out of state students or developing a clinic with a community partner). These working groups do the legwork of defining a winnable campaign which is then presented to the Core Team. The Campaign is then carried out under the leadership of the Working Group and with involvement of the entire HEC.

Leadership development: Organizing requires constant attention to training leaders. HEC members are supported by the Working Group Co-chairs. Working Group Co-Chairs are supported by Core Team members. The Core Team is supported by the President and a Sound Alliance Organizer. The Sound Alliance Organizer supports the President. Sound Alliance Leadership Institutes are open to all members of the HEC and partner organizations.

Outside Organizations: Members of outside organizations are encouraged to take part in HEC activities and to attend Leadership Training through the Sound Alliance. If organizations want to partner with the HEC they are welcome to and a Core Team member will serve as the liason to that organization (similar to the working groups)

Working Group Co-Chairs: The Working group co-chairs facilitate the meeting of the working group and meet with the appointed Core team member at least monthly and attend Core Team meetings as requested. All working group chairs are encouraged to attend Sound Alliance Leadership Institutes. Working Groups set their own schedule for meeting.

Core Team member: The members of the Core Team direct the Health Equity Circle. Core Team members conduct relational meetings and listening campaigns on campus and with community groups to build relationships, identify individuals and issues of interest to the HEC. The Core Team is led by the HEC President and supported by a Sound Alliance organizer. All Core Team members must attend Sound Alliance leadership training either before or during their role on the Core Team. The Core Team also works collectively to develop their skills as organizers and leaders. The Core Team meets at least monthly. The Core Team ideally includes representatives from the different schools at the UW. Collectively the Core Team charters working groups and campaigns and individually each Core Team member is responsible supporting a working group chair and building the organization in their respective school. Core Team members are considered Vice Presidents of the HEC.

President: The HEC President heads the Core Team and is the top representative of the Health Equity Circle. The President is supported by a Sound Alliance organizer and meets with them monthly. The President leads or appoints leaders for large public meetings of the HEC. The President also conducts relational meetings to build relationships with other organizations and schools within the UW. In addition the president must attend a Sound Alliance leadership training and is encouraged to attend a regional or national training. The president is selects representative to the Sound Alliance Strategy Team and may serve as a representative as well.

Secretary: The secretary is responsible for taking minutes of core team meetings and distributing them to Core Team members and Working Group Chairs. The Secretary is also responsible for maintaining a database of contact information for students, community groups, and faculty/staff. The Core Team is responsible collectively for building this database and the Secretary ensures that it is centralized and up to date. The Secretary reports to the President and attends all Core Team meetings

Treasurer: The Treasurer maintains the bank account for the HEC and ensures that the group maintains its registration status as an Registered Student Organization. The treasure/Secretary can be a current HEC officer or any active member. The Treasurer/Secretary reports to the President and attends Core Team meetings as requested.

Web/listserv administrator: The Web/listserv administrator maintains the HEC website (healthequitycircle.org) and moderates the listserv (healthequitycircle@u.washington.edu). Posts to the listserv must be addressed within a day of the posting. The President or other Core Team members may be called upon to ensure the listserv is administered promptly. The Web/listserv administrator can be a current HEC officer or any active member. The Web/listserv administrator reports to the President and attends Core Team meetings as requested.
