General Studies 344: Introduction to Service and Community (offered during Winter Quarter)
SLN: 14716
Many UW students are interested in exploring service and volunteer opportunities in Seattle; however, it can be difficult to know where to get involved, how to find a good fit, and how to most effectively work in a community-based setting. How Can I Help? An Introduction to Service and Community is a three-credit service-learning course that will offer a basic foundation on community service for students in their first or second year at the UW. Through participating in a quarter-long service-learning commitment, visiting local non-profit organizations, and participating in in-class discussions, readings, and activities students will gain a deeper understanding of the wide array of ways they can most effectively partner with their local community and integrate a commitment to service into their academic and professional futures.
