Seattle Children’s Innovative Technologies Lab (SCITL), directed by Dr. Frederick Shic , is dedicated to developing everyday technologies for improving the lives of children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and other developmental disabilities.

Areas of work include biomarker development – primarily using eye tracking and near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) – to track the effects of treatment, understand developmental and behavioral heterogeneity, and to predict clinical outcomes. We are also developing innovative technologies including mobile apps, video games, robots, smart toys and virtual reality, to enable next-generation sensing and therapeutics.

We are looking for interns that are interested in working at the intersection of developmental science, child health and social neuroscience.

Primary Tasks:

  • Assist with eye-tracking and fNIRS experiments on toddlers and children with autism and typical development
  • Entering data
  • Assist with the preparation of manuscripts, grants and presentations
  • Providing general assistance relevant to the functioning of the lab

In addition you will have the opportunity to participate in weekly science meetings, monthly autism meetings with multiple sites and other research and didactic experiences.

Requirements:

  • Six hours per week commitment (hours flexible)
  • Three quarter commitment required

This is an unpaid internship, but you may choose to receive 499 credit for your involvement.
