UW Neurological Surgery Summer Student Program

Every summer, the UW Department of Neurological Surgery invites a group of highly motivated students (18+) to participate in the eight-week Summer Student Program. Each student will be placed in a neuroscience lab, will attend Neurological Surgery Grand Rounds, OR observations, and weekly presentations by our faculty. At the end of the program, participants will give a presentation of their area of focus at our graduation in front of family, friends and mentors. The Summer Student Program is a great way to broaden your knowledge in the field of biomedical research, including translational, clinical and basic research; many past participants are pursuing careers in research, medicine or allied fields, especially in the neurosciences.

Stipends for each student are set by the NIH at $3,200 over 8 weeks for college students and $2,667 for high school students. (Note: High school or recent high school graduates must be 18 years of age or older to participate.) Housing stipends (no meals or transportation) are available for 3 to 4 out-of-area students.

Applications for the 2018 session will be open from November 1, 2017 through January 2, 2018. Please read more about requirements and how to apply on our website. With any questions, please email Program Administrator Jim Pridgeon (pridgeon@uw.edu) and Program Coordinator Ellie Thorstad (ethors@uw.edu).
